TOUR OF EUROPE

SIR F. TRUBY KING HIGH SPEED.BY MOTOR (From "The Post's" Representative.) . / LONDON", 26th April. ' Next Monday Sir F. Truby King and his daughter" will, set out on a tour of Europe which it is proposed shall last for thirty-five days. They have bought a 14-h.p. saloon car, - and are employing a first-class chauffeur and courier 'to pilot them on their long journey. "I am quite satisfied we can effect everything necessary," said Sir Frederick, "professionally and otherwise, in a maximum of thirty-five days,, travelling at the rate of 125 to 200 or, more miles a day, and arriving back at Folkestone about Ist June." Itineraries are not of particular interest, but in this case the record of travel is an indication of the energy pertinacity of the principal traveller. The route will be Southampton, Le Havre, Paris, Orleans, Valley of the Loire (and adjacent chateaux), thence to Biarritz via Poitiers, the Landes, etc. From Biarritz over the Pyrenees to lamplona (the capital of Navarre, tho birthplace of Richard's wife, licre'ngaria). .••Return by route-leading northwestwards to San Sebastian, reaching the fringe of the Bay tof Biscay .about1100 miles west of Biarritz. From Biarritz via liayonne, Pau, Taibes, Toulouse, 'Carcassonne, Montpellier, Nimes, Avignon, Tarascon, Aries, Aix, Marseilles, French Riviera, and Italian Riviera,' as far as Kapallo (about 70 miles east of Genoa). To save time and avojd bad, flinty, coastal roads, they are obliged to cut out their projected journey to Pisa, Nome, Florence, and Bologna—reaching Venice by the alternative route direct through Lomb.irdy—namely, Genoa, Milan, Brescia, , Lake Gattla, Verona, and Venice. . , From Venice the route wijl lie through Treviso, Udiiie, Villach,. and the Semmerr ing Pass . (which should be free enough of-ice and snow to allow the travellers through' by the middle of May). Their intended route from Vienna 'was by Prague, Dresden and Berlin, but in order to" save time and avoid bad Czecho-Slo-vakian roads, they purpose visiting Prague by airplane from Vienna (which takes only two hours) and returning to Vienna- by train. From Vienna they will motor to Linz, Nuremberg, Uothenburg, Wurzbur;.', Frankfort, Cologne, and Diisseldorf— crossing into' Holland' at Arnheim; thonce\ to Utrecht, Amsterdam, Haarlem, Loyden, The Hague,-Delft,'Rotterdam, and due south to Antwerp; tlicnee Soutli-wost 'through Ghent and Coiirtrai to Yores, 'St. Omcr, and Boulogne, crossing to Folkestone. ' . : "Wo ought' to maintain, an average speed of between thirty and forty miles an hour," (said Sir Frederick," "and the driver is quite willing to ensure up to 250 or even 300 miles a day when we want to cover distance, rather than loitering. "I am particularly anxious to meet and confer with Dr. Annand-Dolille, tho leading exponent and authority in France of Eollier's sunlight treatment, and some of tho leading, paediatrists m Paris. We shall be.spending a few days in Vienna with Yon Pirquct and Doctors Schiok and Siegfried Weiss, with whom I have been in personal touch since 1913, and especially at the close of the war in 1018. "We purpose spending about a week in Holland and Belgium, with a view to investigating' on the spot the practical measures by wh'^h they have arrived at theirremarkably low rates of maternal .mortality, and the deaths of infants in the first month of life, as these matters are of such supreme importance in New Zealand. "Wo shall arrive back in London about the end of May, and intend to' remain in' the Old Country for about six .weeks, with a view, to attending the National Conference on Maternity and'lnfnnt Welfare, which takes place in London in the first week, in July. I sluvll also attend tho International Child Welfare Conference'which is to bo held in Paris from Bth to 12th July. ' I have had to give up all idea of a sojourn in America on tho way back to New Zealand, as I undertook' to return to New Zealand in time to attend the General Conference of the Plunket Society which is to meet in Wellington early in September."
