TARARUA TRAMPERS
■ NINTH ANNUAL MEETING r Tho ninth annual meeting of the Tararua1 Tramping Club last evening was well- attended, thoso present including a largo number of lady members. Tho president, Mr.'F. W. Vosseler, was in the chair. ■ ■■ • ■ , In moving tho adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, details of which havo already been published, the chairman said that the- club was gradually establishing for itself a fine name. Thin was vory clear from the attitude towards the club of tho various Government Departments.1 The club's good namo was its greatest asset, and the speaker hoped that' that namo would bo enhanced and preserved. . A debt of. gratitude'was owed to tho farmers whom the club visited in its outings for extending tho privileges of their properties, and it was very .necessary that members should abido strictly by, the rules so that tho interests of tho farmers should not suffer from anything the club might do. A bright aspect of the club's activities was tho spirit of helpfulness towards each otlior, and, when ■ necessity arose, towards nonmembers. It was regrettable 'that there had been two occasions upon which tho club had been called upon to furnish search parties, but at tho same tlmoit was gratifying to find that so many of the members. wore willing at a moment's notice to offer their services. It was really the club's duty-to assist on such occasions, because of tho members' knowledge of tho rough country about Wellington. . i ■ In roplyi to a member who asked whether it was a fact thaticertain huts in tho Orongorongo Valley wore to bo destroyed, tho chairman said that he; had heard nothing of tho proposal, but could assure, members that tho matter would bo taken up by the incoming committee. A voto of thanks was passed, to Mr: D. E. Hoggarcl, ono of tho vico-presi-dents, for his strong stand in, regard to the conservation of tho forests in tho area recently taken over by tho Water Board.
