THE SALARY OF A FARM OVERSEER.
The entire area of a farm is worked and used exclusively for fattening lambs and pigs on a somewhat extensivo scale, and is divided into three paddocks. One is wholly pasture land and comprises two-thirds of- the area, the second paddock of sixty acres is used for $he cultivation of root crops, whilst the third block is devoted wholly to grain crops, chiefly oats. The overseer in charge is paid a salary at the rate of ten shillings per acre ■ per annum for the whole farm, and the problem is to find how much he is entitled to receive yearly.. The only other available- information on the point is that tho number of acres of pasture and oats to the number' of acres of roots and pasture is as eighteen to seventeen, and this should assist the reader in deciding tho amount of the salary in question.
