HIGHLY OBJECTIONABLE
APPEAL TO POWER BOARDS •■ A proposal recently placed before the Marlborough Power Board, to the effect that advertising should be permitted .on its concrete poles, was roundly con-! demned by a meeting of the Marlborough Automobile Association. A host "of reasons was adduced against the pro-, jject, reasons sufficiently apparent '. by.,this time, one' would think, to pre-. -vent any kirid.W public body.from giv-> ing even momentary consideration to this method of assisting its finances.Quite apart from the general disfigurement of the countryside and the danger that might arise from inattention by drivers and others'on the. road to their. proper, concern—an exaggerated dangeiy by the wayrrthere is the question of the spirit of the new motor regulations, which is that road signs should be signs for traffic only. The time must be close now when it will be possible to secure by legislative enactment a complete abolition of all kinds of disfiguring, advertisements from the neighbourhood of our highways.
