DEFRAUDING THE CUSTOMS.
A statement from Dunedin appeared in "The Post" on Bth June tliat a British firm had suggested to a Dunedin business man an ingenious method by which the New Zealand Customs authorities could be defrauded by understating the value of goods imported on a cash on delivery basis. On investigating the matter, the Deputy British;; Trade:. Commissioner, Mr. W. D. Eambie," has ascertained that the document in'question was an'unsigned.printed circular from a native firm in India, and that the.. occurrence does not, therefore, reflect adversely upon the high standard of commercial morality maintained by British manufacturers and exporters generally.
