CITRUS FRUITS IMPORTS.
Mr. H. G. Such, of the Australian Central Citrus Association, reported on his return to Sydney from New Zealand that there is room for considerable expansion in the--consumption of citrus fruit here. He stated that the requirements of the New Zealand retailers are confined mostly to the fruit seiit over by organised packing-houses, the reason being that the fruit is packed under a brand which guarantees the quality, accuracy of pack, number in the case, and is generally got up in a manner most calculated to effect ready sales. The associated packing-houses of Australia,• therefore, are making, arrangements to greatly increase their shipments to New Zealand, and expect . by maintaining a. regular supply to all the principal markets, to displace a proportion of the sales of American fruits, which are now competing on a large scale.' During the past season the importations of ■oranges to New' Zealand were approximately 7,000,0001b weight from America, 5,000,0001b from the Cook Islands, and 5,000,00001b from Australia. The fruit trade in New Zealand.-Mr. Such said, appears to be in quite a flourishing condition. . .
