WELLINGTON CLUB

The directors'of the Wellington Bowling Club, in their forty-second annual report, congratulate members that the club is still in a satisfactory financial position. The total membership at end of May, 1925, was 185. The directors record with deep regret, the death of the following esteemed members:—Messrs. A.. Haldane, I. Hyams, C. A. Knapp, W. M. Muir, G. Munt, J. I. Pettigrew, E. R. Clunes-R»s, A. Veitch, and E. Young. Messrs. C. A. Knapp, W. M. Muir, and A.- Veiteli were members of the club for a large number of years, and the two latter gentlemen were former presidents. ■ Mr. Hyams was at one time the club's secretary. The winners of the various competitions held during the season were as follow: —Champion singles, Mr. A. E. Duncan; champion pairs, Messrs. •J. .J. Roberts and J. Porteous (s.); champion rinks, Messrs. S. Garland, A. Johnson, A. G. Warwick, E. J. Hill (s.); pre-, sident's and vice-president's trophies, Messrs. E. Moult, B. B. Allen, G. A Townshend, E.. J.,. Hill (s.); Grenfell Memorial trophy (presented by Mr. W. J. Osborne), W. Donovan;,. Georgetti Cup. (unfinished), two more games to play. The friendly bowl match with the Christchurch Club was played on their green on' 7th January, and resulted in a win for' the Wellington' Club after a very close contest. A. team consisting of Messrs. F. G. Gray, G. Wilson, J. T. Pettigrew, and J. Fairway (s.) succeeded in being ruu-ners-upin the Centre Tournament, and became, holders of the Flyger Shield. The matches for the Duthie Cup were played on the club's green on 6th and 7th February,- and- again -the - Hutt Club, proved the winners after some good games.. The next contest wij> take place at Wanganui. The Victornan bowlers played the club on 21st February, and the game resulted in a wm for the Wellington Club. Veterans' Day tournament, instituted by the Wellington Centre, -WEts again played on the club's greens, and proved the uusal success. The annual match against the combined clubs was played on 18th February, and Wellington Club won by a goef'dmajority of points. The directors desire'-1-toy express their regret at^the death of Mr. .G.-Munt. He was a director';at. the. time of ::his death, and his valuable services were highly ap-1 precfated by all associated with him on the directorate. The directors again thank the' ladies for their willing'assistance at, the various functions'held during the reason. .:'...■,. The directors have had under serious consideration the cost of the up-' keep of the small upper green (tennis court), arid have come to the conclusion, seeing that no adequate return has resulted

Certain proposals regarding this matter, therefore will be submitted for consideration at the annual meeting. The thanks of the club are due to Mr. E. J.
