■& 'ÜBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEES (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TAUEANGA, This Day. In connection with the taking over of a section of the East Coast railway from Waihi to Tauranga on Monday next, aird a further section. to Tancatua in a few weeks' time, about 250 men in all branches, now engaged by the Public Works Department, received notice of dismissal. Their places are to be filled presumably by a working railways staff. In addition tunny men living in houses and huts have received notice to quit. Mr. C. E. Macmilliui, M.P., has telegraphed to the Prime Minister explaining tho position and appealing for work to be found for tho men by proceeding ■with the construction of tho railway from Taneatua to Opotiki, or Rotorua to Taupo, or from 'Paeroa to Pokeno, and also that the men's wives and families be left in possession of the huts ia the meantime.
