Martin Samuelson, aged 51, a third offender for drunkenness, was fined £1, in defffult seven days' imprisonment. For his fifth offence of drunkenness, Joseph Christopher Mooney (43) was fined £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment. He was fined £1, in default seven days' imprisonment, for procuring liquor while prohibited. John Edwards, a labourer, aged 23, pleaded guilty to being £19 10s in arrears on a maintenance order made in favour of his wife. The Maintenance-Officer (Mr. J. ¥. Manning) said that the defendant had paid nothing since the ■ making of the order. Considerable difficulty had been experienced in locating him, and a warrant issued in April for his ..arrest had only recently been executed. The defendant was sentenced to two months' imprisonment, to be released on payment of the arrears. The Magistrate remarked that there appeared to have been a deliberate refusal to pay. Sub-Inspector Lander stated that the engine of the lorry driven by Bramley had stalled just ns he was crossing the railway line, and the lorry bad been struck by a train, and pushed along the line. The Railway authorities admitted that the crossing was a dangerous one, as the view was rather restricted. The lorry was considerably damaged. "He has learnt his lesson." said the Magistrate. ' • A fine of £3 was imposed on Isaiah Joseph Hills for carrying out electrical wiring work, not being a registered electrical wireman.
