(From Our Own Correspondent.). NELSON, 9th June. The Hon. K. S. Williams, Minister of Public Works, arrived in Nelson kte yesterday afternoon. After leaving Murchison a visit was paid to Motueka, when several deputations were introduced to the Minister by Mr. K. P. Hudson, M.P. A visit was paid to Motueka Wharf, ■where the chairman of the Motueka Harbour Board, Mr. Horatio Everett, met the party. Last evening the Minister met several private deputations, and also a re--presentative public one at the Municipal Chambers. To-day was spent at. Kai valley, where the alternative routes of the Konga "Valley Croixelles road are being inspected. A return will be made to Nelson this evening to connect with the steamer for Wellington. The death occurred this morning of Mr1 H. O. Holdaway, of Halifax street, Nelson, an old and respected resident of this city. Jhe late Mr. Holdaway was the son of John Holdaway, a member of Captain Wakefield's expedition, and was born up the Maitai in 1851. He is survived by a widow and family of five daughters and four sons. Traffic returns for the Nelson railways lor the month of April show an increase over the corresponding period last year, except for the number of passengers carried. The figures are: Passengers 4082, against 5886; live stock, 3133, against 2620----tonnage, 2703, against 2473. The revenue amounted to £2008 Ms Bd, against £1659 Os 9d, an increase of £349 13s lid. The funds of the Nelson Punket Society have been augmented to the extent of almost £200 during the last year by a series of afternoon teas given by different hostesses. The annual ball resulted in a profit of over £70. [t is announced that Mr. H. E." Holland, H.P., will address a meeting of electors at Tapawera on Friday evening, 15th June. On the same night the Motueka branch of the R.S.A. will hold its annual ball at the Institute Hall, Motuoka. The members of the Nelson Women's Club yesterday entertained Miss Amy Evans and Mr. Frazer Gange to afternoon tea. Mr. Gange aave an interestng address on the development and- encourigement of musical talent and art that is being fostered by women's clubs elsosvhere. There was a large attendance of members, and a delightful afternoon was spent.
