POTATO GRADES.
The Ashburton Chamber of Commerce recently sent out a circular advocating the institution of an intermediate grade of i potatoes between "seed" and. "f.a.q. table." Thecireular was before the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce this week, when various reasons were advanced against an additional grade being instituted. It was stated that already there are three grades, "choice table," "good table," and "f.a.q." Members of the N.Z. Grain, Seed, and Produce Merchants' Association have stated that a further grade would not be in the interests of either the grower or the consumer, but would tend to depreciate prices and not assist the higher qualities. The council, while of opinion that the matter was one more directly affecting the Grain. Seed, and Produce Merchants' Association, decided that no action should be tnkon.
