«, FIRST TANKER ARRIVES TO DISCHARGE AT THORNDON AVith tlio first shipment of. petrol for the Atlantic Union Oil Company the new Norwegian motor tanker Ranja arrived at "Wellington this afternoon from San Pedro, via Auckland, and is to berth at Thonidou. Breastwork late this afternoon, to commence discharge. The company's tanks, which arc situated at Kaiwami, are connected to the wharf by a pipe line which, runs along the- Hutt road. The Banja has discharged, a portion of her cargo at Auckland, and the remainder of her shipment is for "Wellington. ' Other sub-stations arc- being erected at Gisborne, Hamilton, and Frankton Junction, and will be supplied by rail from the main stations at.Auckland and Wellington: . ••.. ■'. . : The Kanja is the first overseas tanker to berth and discharge petrol at the Thorndon Breastwork. -.... , '.' The loaded speed of the Banja ia in the neighbourhood; of . 11-'; knots, and the fuel consumption is about 9 tons a day. The engine-room, auxiliaries are electrically driven. ■• Centrifugal separators are fitted for purifying the lubricating and fuel oil. - Four different oil cargoes may bo. carried at the same time. The Ranja is one of ten identical motor tankers which have been built in Sweden for different owners. ' . : — ■ ' i
