«. PROTECTION BY MAGISTRATE (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. When tho Town Clerk of Onehunga appeared on behalf of the informant in a borough bylaw case in the Onehunga Magistrate's Court yesterday, the Magistrate (Mr. J. 11. Luxford, S.M.) said ho was unable to allow lay people to take the place of solicitors. The profession must be protected. Tho Town Clerk: "But I am duly authorised to appear on behalf of the Borough Council." The Magistrate: "I cannot allow it. A duly authorised solicitor should appear on behalf of the informant." The Town Clerk stood down and the case proceeded without legal assistance.
