Inter-union negotiations for a settlement of the marine cooks' strike wore interrupted yesterday owing to the King's Birthday holiday, but they are being, resumed to-day. Strong representations are being made by the Trades Union Council to the cooks to allow them to negotiate with the owners, as their fellow-union-ists are feeling the pinch of enforced idleness. The owners' patience is nearly exhausted, and they intend if the strike is unsettled next week to make a call for volunteers, for whom they will seek Federal protection.
