SOUTH ISLAND MAORIS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OAMARU, 4th June. In the first trial game prior to competing for the Prince of Wales Cup, Federation Fraucaise de Rugby Trophy, and Te Mari RoseboAvl, the South Island Maoris Avere defeated by 14 points to 0 this afternoon by the North Otago representatives, after a bright exhibition, before a large attendance. The opening score came from a nice concerted movement, Wise making a strong run doAvn the line to score in the corner. A Cbav minutes later Holloav ran through the centre opposition for a brilliant try. The visitors opened their account by Williams diving over in the corner, and the score at half-time stood 6-3. In the second spell, Sumpter improved the home side's score by finishing off a good passing movement, and the Maoris retaliated Avith a good try by Morete: Holloav again dodged through the opponents to score near the posts, Wise adding the major points as time sounded.
