Mendelssohn's "Elijah" is to bo given at tile Town Hall on Saturday evening by the Royal Wellington Choral Union under Mr. John Bishop. Much has been done to make the performance a remarkable one, as local oratorical performances go. A splendid chorus and orchestra has been trained, and Is said to bo well at one with the musical director. There, is no question about the musical greatness of "Elijah." From its first performance, it was realised that Mendelssohn had written under inspiration, so colossal was the ideal, so wonderful its complete 'realisation. For nobility and grandour In chorus work, for beauty of orchestration, "Elijah' stands out among the oratorios. The committee lias selected the following soloists-.—Soprano, Miss Amy Evans; contralto. Miss Frances Morrison; mezzo. Miss Iris Potter; tenor, Mr. Edwin Dennis, and baritone, Mr. Fraser Gange. The final rehearsal will take placS at tho Town Hall sit 7.30 to-morrow evening, when only those taking part will be admitted. The box plan can be inspected at The Bristol. Three hundred two shilling tickets will bo on sale at The Bristol from 5 to 5.30 to-morrow, Friday evening, also Saturday morning.
