CHURCH RITUAL

■ BISHOP OF WAIKATO DEFENDED (Bf Telegraph.—Press Association.) HAMILTON, 20th May. The attitude of the Bishop of AVaikato regarding ritualism is vigorously defended in an editorial in tho diocesan magnzinc. It states:— "From some statements recently made, it might reasonably bo supposed that the bishop is guilty of interfering with parishes in such matters as ritual. No directions or suggestions a's regards ritual have been made at any time to any clergy of the diocese. All the bishop has done was to make an offer to the Cathedral authorities of some vestments given him in England and Mauritius. These were unanimously accepted by tho Cathedral vestry. Ho 'would not have made the offer had not the vestments been in use at St. Peter's years before the bishop came. At "no time, in no way, lias the bishop made or suggested any variations in tho ritual in use at the Cathedral, even though, as bishop, he might have done so in his own Cathedral. The standing committee has met regularly. There have been no dissensions whatever in the accredited representative body of tho church. The bishop, in any'action taken lately, has boon advised of every detail by the members, clerical and-lay."
