EQUALITY OF STATUS

The whole question of Imperial relations was raised in the House of Commons by Mr. Henri Bourassa, who moved an amendment in Committee of Supply on External Affairs. • He regretted that proper steps had not been' taken to giyo full effect, in both domestic and external affairs, to the equality of status acknowledged by the Imperial : Conference to bo a fundamental principle of relations between the British Dominions. He laid stress on the importance of not assuming moral obligations in international affairs. Tho Premier, Mr. King, held that experience, since the Imperial Conference had served to show that the course taken 'at the Conference was the proper one. ■.■.'-. The Conservative leader, Mr. Bennett, thought equality of status was a high-sounding term which did not properly represent tho situation. There could not bo equality unless they had the right to mako peace or declare war.i They must also' have the right to amend tho Constitution. (Received 30th May, 11 a.m.) OTTAWA, 29th May.
