PERSONAL MATTER?
The Mayor, Mr. G. A. Troup, is going to Auckland on Friday to give evidence before the Commission, which is investigating questions of borough amalgamation in that city. Mr.. John T. Pettigrcw, late managing director of Thomas Brown, Ltd.,' coal importers and distributors, died suddenly at his residence in Hataitai yesterday at tho ago of 73 years. Tho late Mr. Pettigrew was born in Drumgelloeh, Lanarkshire, in 1856. He j spent his early manhood in Coalbridge and came to New Zealand with • his wife \and family twenty years ago, settling in Christchurch where ho en-, tored the firm of Thomas Brown, Ltd., as a traveller. Afterwards he was appointed manager of tho Wellington branch and subsequently rose to the position of managing director of the firm, remaining on tJig. board of directors when he retired five month's ago. Tho late Mr.: Pettigrew was an active member of St. John's Presbyterian Church, being an elder and holding for many years and up to the time of his death the offlco of treasurer. He wak alsp a member of long standing of the Wellington Bowling Club. He leaves a widow and five daughters, Mrs, W. R. Taylor, Palmcrston North; Mrs. T>. M'Cormiek, Hawera; . Mrs. Ivcy, Masterton; Mrs. J. Michael, Tfli Tapu; and Miss Pettigrew, Wellington. - . *
