THE KING'S BIRTHDAY
A GENERAL HOLIDAY Sunday, 3rd June, is tho King's Birthday, but tho general holiday which will be observed in connection, with it will bo taken on Monday. ■ A royal salute of 21 Runs will be fired at noon. It will be 63 years since His Majesty first waa ushered into this world, having been born nt. Mnrlboroxigh House,, in London, in 1805. Ho was the second son of King Edward and Queen Alexandra, then Prince and Princess ,of Wales, and was christened George I'Vederick Ernest Albert. His elder brother, Prinea Albert Victor, two years his senior, boeamp Duko of OJarencc, but died in 1892, thus leaving Prince George a future heir to tho Throne. Tho present King relinquished tho title of Duko of .Cornwall and York for that of Prince of Wales in 1901, ascending to tho Throno in May, 1910, when King 'lidward died. Monday will be observed as a bank and general holiday, there being a general cessation of business. A number of racing and other sporting fixtures have beon arranged, in addition to special train a,nd motor excursions.
