CHBISTCHUKCH, This Day. ■ Tho morning newspapers praise the action of the Government in handing over' the Provincial Council Chamber to the provinces of Canterbury and "Westland. • Tho "Lyttelton Times" says: "The gift is a gesture for which Sir Francis Bell is probably largely ■ t responsible, for he is the one man in the Ministry'to whom the sentiment of such an historic site would mako a special appeal; but while it is difficult to apportion the credit for the return of the building that played so import- . ant a part in the history of the pro- ■• vince, it is- safe" to say that nothing the Government could have done for Christchurch and the province could ' have been more appropriate or would have been more welcome."
