NO COMPROMISE
OWNERS WILL NOT BUDGE MELBOURNE, 28th May. The Commonwealth Steamship Owners' Association has issued a statement that the owners have decided that there can bo no compromise in the cooks' dispute, and no move be made to reconimission the idle ships until the men have offered to man the vessels as required. The owners claim the absolute right to a free selection, and it is made clear that the chairman of the association had seen representatives of the Waterside Workers' Federation only as a matter of courtesy: During the discussions, there have been no developments whatever, and in no circumstances will the owners meet the cooks themselves until the men have offered to resume, work. ,
