PORIRUA'S -AFFAIRS
The annual meeting of the Porirua Ratepayers' and Progressive Association was held recently. Mr. T. Harris presided. i. The secretary's report stated that progress had been made during the year in respect to urgent improvements. The Makara Council had complied with certain requests made by the association, but the matter of footpaths was still in abeyance, and in view of the danger to'pedestrians through : increasing motor traffic this was considered a matter of urgency. The report also pointed out that there was need for some action to prevent the speeding of motorists through the town. The meeting discussed the lighting at the railway station (stated to be inadequate), and the warning signals at the crossing. It was considered that representationsshould be made to the Railway ment.The,election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. W. H. Field, M.P.; president, ■ Mr. R. Sievers; vice-presidents, Messrs. E. Windley, F. Goldsmith, E. Dod dirigton; hon. secretary, Mr. F. Hassall; hon. treasurer, Mr. T. Harris; hon. Audi tor, Mr. J. T. Owen; executive, Messrs*. W.
