ARREST IN SAMOA
CONFLICT WITH POLICE MINOR CASUALTIES The Minister of External Affairs (tho Eight Hon. J. G. Coates) has been advised by the-'Administrator of AVestern Samoa that the arrest yesterday morning, by civil and military police, of a Mau chief named Leotu, wanted on a charge of threatening to kill, was resisted, and resulted in a small conflict between the police and Mau natives. The arrest was effected without injury to the police. A' number of minor casualties occurred among the Samoans, but it is believed that none is serious. Subsequent to the incident Tamasese, the Mau leader, and other Mau chiefs, saw the Administrator, and accompanied him on an inspection of the injured natives. (Special to Press Association, by Radio.) APIA, 26th May. Two Mau chiefs charged with assault refused summonses to attend Court, and intimated that they did not recognise, the Administration. Military .police arrested them to-day and the occasion was marked by an unsuccessful attempt by Mau supporters to prevent their arrest, in which several Mau supporters received ■ damage from police batons.
