INFORMAL TALK
WHAT COOKS DESIRE* RETENTION OP ROSTER ( SYSTE^I . ' (Received 28th May, 12.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Informal negotiations have begun between representatives of the Waterside Workers' Federation and 'the shipowners under which the' cooks will agree to return to the idle vessels under the terms of the old award. The only condition they ask is to be allowed to retain the roster system provided under their rules. The, Cooks' Union would concede to the shipowners the right to free selection of labour as desired by them. The mediators ask that, the cooks should be permitted to seek the reinstatement of their award, and they also ask, that whatever variations they desire should be left to the. Court to decide the issues. The question of' the extra man for the Ulimaroa's galley they suggest should be left to a board of reference or to the Arbitration Court.
