ihe Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated--the 2oth May, from the High Commissioner ior JSew Zealand, London:— Tallow. Spot market quiet but steady with quiet demand at auction. Present spot quotations are:—Mutton: Fine, 42s I 1° « 6, d P er cwt; falr to Sood, 39s 6d-' to 41s; dark to dull, 38s to 38s 6d BeefSweet and/or mixed, 40s 6d to 445; fair to good, 38s 6d to 40s 6d; dark to dull, 37s to 38s Mixed: Pair to good, 38s '6d to 40s; dark to dull, 37s to 38s. Gut, etc., 35s to 38s. Hemp: Manila market steadier, with better tone. "J" grade May/July shipment quoted £38, buyers. Sisal market quiet and easier. No. 1, afloat, quoted £35 10s to £36; No. 2, £34 to £34 10s. New Zealand market dull, and no business reported. Nominal values: Highpoints, £31 10s; fair, £28 10s; common, £28; n«cond made tow, £20; third grade, £17 10s, May-July shipment. Wool: Bradford market quiet. Quotations for tops are firm at about last rates' quoted. Apples: Apples ex Corinthic on market; I very cold and some frosted; Otago consignment lacking colour. Argylshire commencing discharge to-day. Market fair, with steady demand. Prices: Statesman and bturmer, 12s to 13s per case; Jonathan, 10s to 13s; Delicious, Dunn's Favourite, 10s to" 12s; London Pippin and King David, 10s to 11b 6d; Otago Cox's Orange, 18s to 25s Pears: Ex Port Hunter, good; ex Corinthic, very mixed, some backward, and others fully ripe. Fair demand. Prices: Winter Nelis, 3s to 5s per tray; Josephine, 4s to 6s; P. Barry, Winter Cole, 3s to 3s 6d.
