The gift by the Government of the Provincial Council Chambers to the provinces of Canterlnuy and Westland was announced by Sir Francis Bell at the jubilee luncheon. The building will be controlled by a trust. The Provincial Council Chambers^ on the, bank of the Avon, is.ono of the most beautiful buildings in New Zealand, and always evokes the greatest admiration from . visitors, wno feel at once its quiet old-world atmosphere. The main hall, in which the old Provincial Council sat, is very beautiful in the Gothic style, and is remarkable for its carved decorations and its beautiful stained glass windows. It has long been used for the.holding of confer-, enees 'and the sittings of the Arbitration Court. •...-.■.
