NEW MAIL CONTRACT
Australian Press .\ssoclatlon. (Received 28th May, 3 p.m.) WASHINGTON,1 26th May. Acting under the provisions of the new Jones-White Merchant Marine Act, the Postmaster-General (Mr. New) has sent a communication to the Shipping Board certifying tho seven ocean mail routes which should be established or operated'for tho carrying of mails as contemplated by the Act. Those routes aro already under contract, but Mr. New desires that they be included
under >the provisions of the new measure. One of tho routes is San Francisco to Sydney, with monthly sailings, and with an annual mail poundago of 2,217,859 and an estimated five-year volume poundago of 12,198,224. It la unknown whether the Post Office contemplates .any change of line carrying the Australian mail when the present contract ends.
