They suggest that the matter be loft in obeyance until the sports bodies feel that their need for playing areas is more urgent than at present. "With reference to the suggestions made by you re drainage and roading-, the board feels that no definite estimate can bo given until it is known what portions of the land are to be taken up, whilst the removal of the stop-bank is considered to be unwarranted. "Tho board are as anxious to see that the island is used for a public reserve and recreation purposes ac arc the sports bodies, but as trustees of tho ratepayers they have to be assured that tho revenue now obtained must bo forthcoming, and i» suggesting that the matter stand over, they desire to assure you that they will always be ready to re-open the discussion. x ■ "The members desira to.record their, ap,preciation of the work done by your good selves in the matter, and trust the result will mutually benefit both parties."
The other- morning, shortly before 6 o'clock, the mud geyser that lies behind tho eighteenth too on the golf course elected to have a morning out (says tho Kotorua "Chronicle")- It shot blocks of mud in all directions for a quarter of an hour. The sound of the flopping mud could bo heard for miles in tho still morning air. Thosegeysers seldom go up in tho ilny, but exult on frosty nights and when sharp barometric changes occur. |
