A fantastic scheme has been adopted in Australia to reawaken the activities of ttie Church of England, having its commencement in Melbourne. The Rev. C. Barclay,' vicar of St. Mary's Church, Melbourne, inaugurated the idea, which calls for twenty^four hours' continuous prayer In each church which accopts the cross. At St. Mary's a twenty-four hours' continuous service was held, after which the cross was conveyed to St. Peter's, where a similar service took place. And so tho cross will go on from city, town, and village until it has traversed tho whole of the Commonwealth, and at each of its resting-places a twenty-four hours'1 service of prayer will take place. The cross itself is only two feet high, and the term "fiery" is .only symbolical, as the cross itself is not ignited. In the first case it came from the Holy Sepulchre, at Jerusalem, and it is now being used to awaken a nation to a sense of its religious responsibilities. It started on its crusade early in the present month, and already sevoral bishops have asked for its services in their dioceses. >
