OHIRO HOME
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Following up my letter of 20th instant, and the reply of the chairman'of the Social Welfare Committee of the Hospital Board, may I say that Mr. G, Petherick is a friend of mine, and I hope still to retain his friendship; but I must say that to my mind his remarks are weak and carry us nowhere. The question o£ classification, badly as it is needed, was Wot raised by mo. Reference to Mr. Pethencks statement and the annual report of Mr. W. B. Hicks, who is iv charge of the Home, shows .that there is a difference of view on their part as to the position in the Home. The question arises as to which is right. I stand by my first charge that of asking: "Why has the Old People's Home. Ohirb, been allowed to become a dumping ground for oUr prisons and a refuge for offenders against the law?—l am, etc., W . EDW. HURLEY. [A copy of Mr. Hurley's letter, together with an extract from the annual report of the officer in charge of the Home, were referred to the chairman of the Welfare Committee of the Hospital Board (Mr. G. Petherick), who replied that classification is being carried out as far as possible iv the present crowded state of the Home. The board anrt committee have in mind the waking o* additiops to the Home in order to gi\e effect to reforms, that may bo ncccssa.y.]
