♦_ At the last meeting of the AVellington Competitions Society Executive Council, Mr. Frank Campbell presided ov-er a,full attendance of members.. Mr. J. C. Fulton has accepted the posi'tkm of adjudicator in the highland dancing section at the forthcoming festival, and Miss "Blackburne, of the Education Department, has consented to judge the country dances and singing games—a class introduced in\o the syllabus at Miss lSlackburnc's suggestion. As regards the choral singing contests, tho music selection committe, in response 'to numerous requests, has selected wellknown hymns in place of the part-songs as originally arranged for church choirs. A good response has been made to the appeal to business firms to enter choirs for the firm's choir section, and at least one primary school choir in Canterbury has signified its intention to compote. As an indication of the popularity of choral contests in England, a programme just to hand from AVest iSussox Festival, held last March, shows that 57 adult and 30 school choirs competed—a. total of 2053 competitors. • Entries for llic Wellington testival close on 26th1 June, and' the syllabus may be obtained from any music store or from the secretary, P.O. Box 1059.
