CAR FOR ECONOMY-' Th,o four-cylinder engine lias definite advantages that mean a great deal in popular motoring, and will ensure its survival for many years to conic. In the first place, it is comparatively simple to design, whereas it is no secret that the- correct design of a six-cylinder is a matter -of considerable difficulty, oven where expense is not important. Secondly, it is cheap to make, and among the "popular" classes of car every five pound note is of inipofti ance. Thirdly, the four-cylinder is easy to look after, and ' thereforo cheap to maintain, compared wit-U the six-cyliy-dcr power unit, which has practically CO per cent, more moving parts. The owner-driver can easily decarbonise- a four and grind in the valves,'but a six most owners will prefer to hand over to some garago for such attention. The four is the best practical compromise as a unit for the small cheap car.
