SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS
An anticyclone is still covering the greater part of New Zealand and the Tasraan . Sea, but pressuro has fallen l slowly since Friday with the approach of a cyclone from the northwest. The latter is now centred west of Cape MariafVan Dieraen. Moderate to strong winds between south-east and east, reaching Kale forco'at places, have prevailed north of Wcstporjf and Kaikoura, while elsewhere tho winds have been light to moderate and chiefly east to forth-easterly. The weather has been fair In luost districts in tho South Island with hard frosts last night at many inland places. In tho North Island cold squally conditions with showers prevailed during Friday, and, at !) a.m. to-day, it was still mainly cloudy to overcast, and rain was falling in the North Auckland district, but an improvement was reported in the Cook Strait region.
