The anticyclon. covering New Zealand and the Tasman Sea has intensified and barometer readings as high as 80.75 finches were reported at 9 a.m. to-day.at Oamaru aud Dunedin. Pressure, however, is relatively low ■ in, the far North, aud thero is evidenco of the development of a cyclone in tho northern Tasman Sea. Sloderate to strong south-east to east winds have prevailed, reaching gale force at places in the central provinces. The weather has been chiefly fair In the southern half of the Soiith Island and in Westland, but elsewhero it has been unsettled and showery with some heavy rain at places on the east coast from Kaikoura northwards. Temperatures have been cold, and frosts have been prevalent, nioer especially in. the South; Island. ■■-.■•
