"THE PEOPLE'S DRINK"
PLEA .FOR. GOOD CHEAP BEER (From" "The Post's" Representative.) ■ L,.'' LONDON, 21st March. A plea for cheaper beer was made by Sir W. Arbuthnot Lano, the president of the New Health Society, at the annual dinner of the Allied Brewery Traders' Assocation at the Savoy Hotel. He said:— "It would seem a pity that our politicians have not the same grasp and sympathy as Queen Victoria, and that instead of so taxing British beer as to handicap it seriously in competition, with the German and other similar drinks, they would imitate net views and ■ objects and render beer,': tha.people's drink, as abundant; as goodys and; as xheap as possible: In, this way, they >'would r teach • the people the value of beer as a health beverage as'opposed to spirituous liquors." ,
