Sir Austen Chamberlain' stated in. re* ply to a question in the House of Commons that the attention of the Persian Government had frequently been called to the desirability, in their own interests, of recognising : the present Government of Irak _n<l thereby placing their relations mth that-kingdom on a normal and,-friendly footing. The Persian Government, however, had not hitherto taken this step.
