TRAINING NOTES

TO-DAY'S WORK AT ELLERSLIE (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post") AUCKLAND, This Day. Beautiful -weather prevailed for training work at Ellerslie, and that cbnsidcrable interest attaches to the forthcoming Great Northern Meeting was shown by the large number of spectators to view the work. No. 1 grass track, one trestle out from the rails, was open for galloping, and four' hurdles wero erected on the outside of the course proper. Tho going was rather holding. Archibald easily beat Aberfeldy over five flights of hurdles on the course proper, while Perle de Leon, who has yet to make his appearanco in public in a, steeplechase, went well over a round of the big country. On No. 1 grass track, the first pair to work were Royal Tea and Thursby, who were associated in a half-mile sprint, the former finishing well in front in 51 4-ssec. This was a smart effort. Corinax worked over a round, but was not on a time-making mission, and it took him 2min 16sec to do the distance. Piet and The Thorn, were sent over five furlongs in lmin 10 l-ssec. Parfait Amour ran home from the seven-furlong post in lmin 38 2-ssec. Segment finished in front of Res- ■ taurant over a similar journey in lmin 38 3-ssec. Marita was timed to run six furlongs in lmin 26 3-ssec, going nicely. Clockwork did seven furlongs in lmin 40 l-ssec. Prince Papa did strong work, but was not timed. Lomint and Sir Archie ran six furlongs in lmin 20 2-ssec. They were together throughout, but Sir Archie appeared to" be doing best at the finish. Sir Mond and June Wine ran three furlongs in 41 3-ssee, finishing together. ' Storm Fiend traversed six furlongs in lmin 20 3-ssec. Scot Free worked steadily over two rounds, increasing the pace the second time round. Maunga and Tuki were sent a mile and a quarter, the last round taking 2min 15 3-ssec. They were together all the way. Ballymoy 11. Cover-ed the last six furlongs of her work in lmin-26sec. The Fox was in front of Tidal at the finish of six furlongs in lmin 25sec. Royal Trek and Salamander were sent over a round, which they compassed in 2min 4sec. There was little between thorn at the finish. Dave did strong work over five furlongs. Whakarite was not hurried to run six furlongs in lmin 26 l-ssec. ' Blue Spear, and Eillute covered seven furlongs in lmin 37 l-ssec. Comical was worked 9ver a round, tho last seven furlongs taking lmin 42 2-ssec. j Mountain Guide, Brampton, and Judge's Box finished in a bunch at the end of five furlongs, in lmin 8 l-ssec. Master Doon went a round in 2min 0 2-ssec, the last seven furlongs taking lmin*3.sec. Odin finished.in front of Kauri Park at the end of a seven-furlongs run in lmin 40 3-ssec. Glendowie pleased better than Rafferty at the finish of a round in 2min 1 2-ss'ee. " . Good.Bpy covered half a mile in 52 4-ssec. On the sand, Mashoor and Importer ran the last half-mile of .their work in 56sec. ; ■ . . „, ; Princess Ronnie and Wee Marble did steady work on the same track. THE JUMPERS. % ' Karamu (Regan) and Pekatahi (W. Eowe) set out over five hurdles on the course proper. Karamu led practically throughout, but they, were close together at the finish, Karamu pleasing most. Nevertheless, it was a good performance on the part of Pekatahi, who is not nearly so seasoned. The time from hurdle to hurdle was 2min 22 3-ssec. I . Great interest was centred in the schooling task of Archibald (H. Dulieu) and Aberfeldy (I. Tilson), who were sent', over five hurdles on the course proper. Archibald was the quicker jumper of the pair, taking the lead at the second fence, and at the last hurdle had about a couple of lengths advan-: tage after alighting, and went. on to beat Aberfeldy. by half a dozen lengths. The time from hurdle to hurdle was 2min 15 3-ssec. Zircon (R. E^ Thomson) and Royal Form (Murphy) were also given a ■schooling task over five hurdles on the course proper. They' were practically together all the way till the last hurdle, where Zircon slipped on alighting and came down. The time from hurdle to hurdle was 2min 20sec. Marble Mount (Mephan), Geyserland (M'Donald), Miss Alma (Healey), and Quineoma (Henderson) were .sent, over four hurdles on the course proper. They finished as named. Marble Mount gave a good display. Fiery Lad (Rae), Lord Bruce (Regan), Pompieus (Chaplin), and Kamehameha (Henderson) sot out for a round over the big fences, including tho hill. Fiery Lad lost his rider at the first fence of the double, and Lord Bruce led along the.back from Kamehameha. This pair, wero together as they went up the hill, and after jumping the first fence Kamehameha stopped at the second. Pompieus then joined Lord Bruce, and they descended the hill together. Once over the double, Pompieus took change and led over the stone wall, which completed the task. Kamehameha was taken back and jumped the second fence on the hill, and eventually wound up by jumping the water jump and the stone wall. Perle de Leon (A. G. Campbell) and Rahepoto (G. Holland) were given a similar task. They wero together till crossing the double the last time, where. Perle de Leon drew away and finished over the stone wall in front of his companion. Rahepoto cut an artery when he jumped the stone wall. Perle de Leon impressed by tho manner in which he negotiated the fences, seeing he has not competed in a steeplechase. Cullgie (M'Gregor) and Abbott's Delight (H. Dulieu) were sent over four hurdles in the centre, the latter falling at the last hurdle. Billy Boy (Henderson) was given a schooling lesson over two hurdles. He balked at the first, but went over it all right when tried again, and also jumped the second one welL Ho was taken back again and jumped nicely. Brigadier Bill, Mister Gamp, and Kilburn, in charge of J. Morris, and Nucleus in charge of her owner (F. Ehrhorn), and Mount Marta in charge of F. C. M'Kay arrived at Ellerslie this morning. - ' ,
