A team from Millerton is expected on 2nd' June, and on 4th , June (King's Birthday) a representative,, team from Marlborough' is to be* here. The standard of play in Nelson is high, especially among the younger players, and it will be possible ■to field an exceptionally strong "team. At a meeting of the Riwaka branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union last evening Mr. 11. P. Hudson, M.P,, announced that for the Canaan bridle track there was a free grant o£ £200 provided for the Takaka side and there was a.sum"of' £300 on the estimates for the Waimea side, which he hoped would be converted to a free grant, also. He. had. interviewed the. secretary of the Minister of Internal Affairs about declaring the Crown lands at the head of the Kiwaka River „ bird sanctuary,, and had'received.'.aI'reply"'that the matter would have the attention 'of the" Department. ■■ • ■'••■-. A pleasing function took place at tha Kiwaka School when, over 20 mothers 'with their babies, gathered in. connection with "Mothers' Day."
