THE WEATHER

VARIABLE WINDS LIKELY There has been little change in the atmospheric pressure since yesterday morning, but a slight wave of low pressure of the westerly type is approaching, the southern portions of the , Dominion. Tbo anti-cyclouo is still centred in the North Tasman Sea. Southerly winds have prevailed north of New Plymouth and East Cape, and westerly winds southwards, except in Fovcaux Strait and neighbouring districts. Winds elsewhere were light to moderate. Tho heavy south-westerly swell which has prevailed in surrounding ocean waters for the past week is gradually abating. There were again some scattered light showers in western districts, but the weather has been mainly fine, with a continuance of frosty conditions in the South Island. The forecast is for moderate southwesterly winds north of Kawhia and East Cape; elsewhere north-westerly, to westerly winds chiefly, but freshening in Cock and Foveaux Straits* and later backing to south-westerlies. Scattered showers are expected in western districts, more especially in Westland and in the far south. Cool night temperatures with frosts are still probable in tho South Island.
