A COUNTRY TRAGEDY
* — (By Telegraph.) , (Special to "The Evening Post.") MASTERTON, This Day. At about 10.30 o'clock yesterday morning the body of a man Avas found in a piece of bush on Mr. C. J. Bennett's Otahoua property, not far from the Weraite road. The police Avcrc communicated, with, and the body was brought to the morgue. A permit issued in Mastcrton by the police for the deceased to procure a gun avUs the only means of tracing tho identity of the body, Avhich aviis in an advanced state of decomposition. Tho number on the permit, Avhich Avas almost all that Avas readable, indicated that the deceased ay.is Leonard William Frew (a son of Mr. EdAvard FreW, of Rangitmnau). Subsequent inquiries confirmed the identification. The deceased Avas 22 years of age. The permit Avas issued at 'Mastcrton on 2nd March,. A feAV days previously Ficav had left his father's property at Rangitumau and came to Afasterton. Avith tho intention of getting work. He stayed with a Mr. Morris in Sussex street, by whom it is understood, he Avas at one time employed. Frew left Morris's house, as far as can bo ascertained, on sth March, tho Monday folloAvhig his visit to the police station, and apparently had not since been seen. Beneath his body was found a Winchester rifle, with a discharged cartridge in the barrel. ■
