LATE SPORTING

THE ONE THOUSAND VICTORY FOR THE ROYAL COLOURS British Official Wireless. RUGBY, 4th May. Following is the result of the ONE THOUSAND GUINEAS, a sweepstakes of 100 soys, with 1000 gns added. For three-year-old fillies; weight 9 stone. One mile; His Majesty the Kin&'s b f Scuttle, by Captain Cuttle —Stained Glass 1 Lordi Dewar's b f Jurisdiction, by Abbot's Trace —Lady Juror .. 2 Lord Derby's b f Toboggan, by Hurry On—Glacier 3 There were fourteen runners. Won by a length; six lengths between second and third. The result was immensely popular. The King and the Prince of Wales were present. The crowd with bared heads loudly cheered His Majesty's victory. The last horse to win a classic race for a reigning monarch was Minoru, who won the Two Thousand Guineas and the Derby in 1909 for King Edward. According to the cabled report, tho winner must have started favourite and at a short price. Jurisdiction was an outsider, with Toboggan probably second favourite. The success of Scuttle is noteworthy in that her young sire, Captain Cuttle, has early earned fame as a progenitor of classic winners. Captain Cuttle won tho Derby in 1922. Scuttle was quite a fair performer last year, her four outings resulting in two firsts, one second, and one unplaced performance. She won the Berkshire Foal Plate, and apparently was unlucky to be beaten into second place in the Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot. Her other success was in! the Fitzwilliam Stakes at Doncaster. The royal colours have not been associated with any really important race for some ,time, and the news of this victory will bo received with pleasure by racing men throughout the Empire. For England Jurisdiction was a hardworked two-year-old, for she contested eight races. She won four of them, was twice third, and twice unplaced. Toboggan, whoso name, judged on her breeding, is a very happy effort, started three times for two firsts and one third. Her best race was the Champion Breeders' Foal Plate at Lewes.
