FIRE BRIGADES
AXNUAL CONFERENCE (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") MASTERTON, 7th April. The seventeenth annual, conference of the United District Fire Brigades' Association was held in. Masterton last night. The • president, . Deputy-Superin-tendent J. Doran (Lower Hutt) occupied the chair. A • welcome was extended to the visiting firemen previous to the conference. The. annual report recorded that the number o£ brigades affiliated with the association was 23, the same number as last year. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £58 16s Od. The report and balancesheet were adopted. A Masterton proposal that the executive approach ex-Superintendent M'Millan, o£ Dannevirke, in reference to the shield presented by him, asking him to alter the conditions, was carried. A remit from Waipukurau that conferences be held in demonstration years only was lost. The election of officers resulted: President, Fireman H. Braggins (Masterton); rice-presidents, Foreman 0., Silbui-y (Petone), Secretary' C. Robinson (Napier), Superintendents R. A.' Anderson .(Martou), and Chambers (Waipukurau);. treasurer, Fireman H. Price (Hastings); secretary, Deput-Superintendent ±t. Hendersen (Hastings); auditor, Fireman J. D. Donovan (Hastings). A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Fireman C. Stubbs, the retiring treasurer, who had a record of eight years' service. ' , . An invitation from Marton to hold the next conference there was accepted. The retiring president, Deputy-Superin-tendent Doran, was preseuted with the past president's badge by President Braggins. The demonstrations commenced on the Masterton Park Oval this morning, and will be continued on Monday. " Results:— .
