PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP
THE QUALIFYING ROUNDS Worse golf weather than was experienced for the qualifying rounds of the Wellington Provincial Championship which opened the Easter Tournament at Heretaunga on Saturday was possible, but it seldom happens for an opening clay. it rained so hard in the morning that the greens were in many cases flooded ivitli casual water, and everyone out on the links was soaked. And it blew. Then the weather brightened, just when some of the players were considering a postponement, and as soon as everyone was out again, down came the rain once more. It blew strongly also in the afternoon. The scoring, in the circumstances, was good. H. A. Black (Miramar) whose score -A 73 in the morning topped the list, turned iv a very useful 80 in the afternoon, and heads the qualifying list with 153. A. D. S. Duncan found his true form in the afternoou, returning a 73 (443534454, 36; 545533463, 37), as did Rana Wagg (553444463,' 38; 345443444, 35). H. J. Shanks; who had come back in 34 in the mowing to get 81. did a 75 in the afternoon, 39 out and 36 back. The most remarkable pair of tile two rounds were L. D. Ilurst and G. The morning handicap was won by J9. P. F. Blundell, 77-8—69, and the afternoon handicap by J. G. Hughes, 82-14—68.
