MATCH WITH MANAWATI? ■ (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. Playing 011 the Palmerston North Sports Ground, a Mauawatu team commenced a friendly match with a team selected from the Wellington Mercantile League. The wicket was in first-class order, and the weather conditions ideal. Winning the toss, Manawatn took first strike, but the opening batsmen failed to get going. M'Haffie C 5, and Brace 24 saved the side from a"rout, the innings closing for 152 runs. The Wellington team made a better start, the score board reading three for 86 at tho afternoon tea adjournment. Then Hope got going, and his fast deliveries, though yielding a few extras, kept the batsmen quiet, his average being six for 31. The tail failed to wag, though "extras" contz'ibuted 44.' The light became bad at about twenty-minutes past 5, and upset the batsmen. Me Wellington team's score waß 135. /■■Despite the dim twilight, Manawatu began their second innings. The result was disastrous, three good wickets yielding only three runs, when an appeal against the light was upheld.
