for 50. The weather was line and the wicket good. The partnership between Hack and Grimmett was responsible for lively scoring, despite frequent changes in the bowling. Grimmett gave an unaccepted chance off Nicholls, and another later. Alexander joined Grimmett after Hack went, and pasted the bowling, run- j ning up his score in quick time. With his ■ departure the tail was quickly disposed of. Davidson showed excellent form as wicketkeeper. New South Wales, who made 291 in the first innings, had three wickets down for •20S in the second strike (Jackson not out 112, Kippax 58, Katcliffe not out 22) when stumps were drawn. New South Wales dtarled the second innings badly, but alter two good wickets had gone cheaply, young Jackson and Kippax became partnered and things took a turn.
