— » AUSTRALIAN TESTS ATHLETES COMPETE TO-DAY Trials with a view to selecting the Australian athletes for the Olympic Games were to be held in Sydney to-day. In some quarters there was an objection to the tests taking place so soon after the return of the athletes from the. championships in New Zealand, and it was considered that performances in New Zealand should be considered in. selecting the team for the Games. It is anticipated that there ■will be a number of scratchings in view of the fact that the trials follow so closely upon the return of the athletes from the Australian and New Zealand championships at Wellington. In any case some of the athletes just returned from Wellington are likely to bo handicapped in performance by the trip across the Tasman.
