It is anticipated that there ■will be a number of scratchings in view of the fact that the trials follow so closely upon the return of the athletes from the Australian and New Zealand championships at Wellington. In any case some of the athletes just returned from Wellington are likely to bo handicapped in performance by the trip across the Tasman.
