YOUNG WOMAN'S LAPSE

A young married woman, whose name was ordered to be suppressed, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to-day to obtaining a frock, valued at £11 lis, by falsely representing herself to be the wife of Dr. Stanton. Detective-Sergeant Holmes said that the accused went into a dressmaker's shop in the city and asked to be shown some frocks. She selected frocks to the value of £40, and asked them to be charged to Dr. Stanton's account. She was allowed to take one frock away, and afterwards it was found that she was not Mrs. Stanton, but that her husband lived in Australia. Mr. F. Anyon said that the accused had adopted the means described to obtain credit for a short time. She was willing to pay for tho frock, and would do so when money arrived from Australia. As it was the accused's first offence, Mr. J. H. Salmon, j_.M., admitted her to probation for a period of twelve months.
