♦ (From Our Own Correspondent.) NELSON, sth January. The Waimea Defence Rifle Club held its third competition of the second aggregate on Saturday. Fololwing are the results:— First class: Irvine, 26, 26, 14-66: Freeman, 24, 30, 12-66; Tomlinson, 27, 28, 10-65; Haycock (15), 64; Maisey (12), 64; Hammond (16), 62; Ching (14), 62; Painton (22), 64. Second class: Wilson (15), 66; Bloomfield (14), 65; Robertson (26), 65. The next shoot,will be held on 7th January. A highly successful Highland gathering was held at Motueka on Monday, when competitors from Blenheim took part. In the evening there were pipe selections and a variety of vocal and instrumental items, and the prizes won at the gathering were presented. Among those who contributed items were Messrs. J. Yardley, L. Manning, A. Guild, M. Jamieson, R. Jamieson, W. Sutherland, Browning, and Masters H. Guild and Bob Jamieson, Mesdames Tripney and Guild and Misses M. Banner, Elsie Draper, Mavis Burgoyne, Beatrice Aydon (Nelson), Boyce, I. Dick, and Browning. "God Save the King" brought a very enjoyable gathering to a close. A visiting team of Wellington cricketers toured the Nelson district during the holidays, having a most successful trip. They won in each of the following matches:— Wakefield (106), Wellington (126); Wanderers (100), Wellington (299); Brightwater (70), Wellington (184): Dovedale (07), Wellington (84); Motueka (65), Wellington (131); Waimea (205), Wellington (2(;0). Torrent Bay proved a popular holiday spot. The Nelson Sea Scouts went into camp there, and numerous yachts and motor-boats visited the Bay during the period of encampment. Boats came from as far as Wellington, and all had an enjoyable time. The Scouts terminated their camp by holding a very merry concert, the boys presenting a very enjoyable programme. The bowling tournament was continued yesterday. The following are the resulta of the games so far. In section A Cappiello (s) «nd Persico, and W. Dee (s) and A Dee won all their games. In the nlav-off Cappiello won. In section B Simpson (s) and Stallatd, V. Vitetta (s) and Laurie, Lockwood (s) and L. Foster, Jos Vitetta (s) and John Vitetta drew with three wins each. In the play-off Jos. Vitetta beat V. Vitetta, Simpson beat Lockwood, and J. Vitetta beat Simpson. In section C Rudman (s) and Edwards were successful, with four wins.
