Yon are learning to sew, and you would love to make something for mother,, wouldn't you? If she will give you a piece of black velvet you can make a coal glove so that grown-ups may put pieces of coal upon the fire without soiling their hands. Cut your pieces of velvet to measure eight inches down and ten inches across. Fold this in half with tho pile of the velvet in.Side. Now you have a double piece measuring five inches'across and eight inches down. With strong thread and strong stitches sew across one of the five-inch ends and down the open eight inch side. The other end must be left open so Mummie.can put her hand inside, and you can make thia quite neat by hemming it. "When all the stitching is done turn, you coal glove right side out. _ Perhaps you think it funny to call it a glove when it has no fingers, but it is easier to use that way.
